yesterday i had the pleasure of attending the lsuhsc employee excellence awards. the event was held at ernest's orleans restaurant and cocktail lounge. the food was delicious, as we had ribeye, tilapia, steamed veggies, potatoes, and bread pudding. the atmosphere was elegant and cozy.

the most exciting part, however, was the reason we were there: my mom was a recipient of one of 15 employee excellence awards received that day.

Renee Sowell, MN, RNC-NIC
Nurse Recruiter, LSUHSC-S
'Renee's contributions may be felt most strongly in the institutions's budget. This past year, along with fellow Employee Excellence Award Recipient Michael Thornton, Renee presented a proposal to develop and implement an in-house nursing agency, which has saved the institution millions of dollars in labor costs. But Renee also has a daily impact on those around her. According to coworkers, Renee is "highly regarded as a professional that is dedicated to LSU Health Sciences Center and its employees." As Nurse Recruiter, she is responsible for the recruitment and retention of all nursing staff on the LSUHSC-S campus; the institution's vacancy rate is at its lowest level in the past 10 years. She is known for being extremely organized, for having high standards, and for her strong commitment to the nursing profession.'

Congratulations, Mom! We are so proud of you and all of your hard work.
